How to recover when someone crip walks over your boundaries?

The audacity. But our recommendations may humble you too.

This post does not need a long introduction. If I ever meet someone who has not been 'tried' before than I will immediately know that this was there first human interaction, of any kind, ever. Period!

Heck, they even tried Jesus. Okay, great! Now that has been settled and we can confirm that the person reading this article is in fact human. Sis, sometimes people will wage a full on assault on your boundaries, if you let them. I mean, Jamaican dutty wine, c-walk, Harlem Shake, across your boundaries like they are auditioning for the Jabbawockeez.

We're convinced if you haven't been tried before you are extraterrestrial. Alien Superstar, to be exact!

The boundaries I'm referring to our emotional and mental boundaries. Emotional and mental boundaries protect your right to have your own feelings and thoughts, to not have your feelings criticized or invalidated. Our boundaries can be crossed all the time, it happens in our work environments, social gatherings, family reunions, relationships, any where, any time, any place. You get the idea.

How do we recover in the aftermath? That's the question. Sometimes, often times, these words, actions, bouts of disrespect are slight, covert, almost insidious and morose. When the boundary crossing offense is overt and audacious it feels even more targeted. Here at TLG, we're firm believers of asking the offender for clarification or communicating the infraction and how to prevent it in the future. In other words, speaking up for yourself. Not all situations require a heavy hand approach, it depends on the complexity of the relationship, the scenario, and the interaction. For a lot of women, this recurring transaction of gross behavior is traumatizing and hell, even if it happens once some of us are ready to throw hands. We get it. The Lotus Gathering does not promote violence, at all. In any form, ever.

However, we do encourage some swift action on your part to recover from the offense and to choose your peace. The Lotus Gathering recommends a range of actions items ranging from peace inducing to take back your power:

  1. Silence. Sometimes there isn't any closure, explanation, or further conversation needed. Period.

  2. Focus on your Glow! Most definitely should be the vibe at all times. Don't even let them see you sweat and keep it moving.

  3. Take a mental note and keep your distance. In some situations, you just have to take a mental inventory and make the decision to stay away.

  4. Lastly, Forgive. This is radical and the most powerful because people mistakes. We are all human. We should extend forgiveness to all, it's not for them it's for you sis. Choose Peace.

Use them all, use one, use none. Whatever you decide, we encourage you; to choose the path of ease, peace and to just be.
